Jacob & Co. X Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon
A tribute to the Bugatti Chiron supercar, the watch exhibits many aspects that resemble one of the fastest road cars, from its aesthetics to how it actually feels to wear. The watchmaker and automaker spent almost a full year in development with the aim of recreating Bugatti's iconic 16-cylinder engine within a limited 54mm x 44mm black titanium case. They succeeded with the in-house hand-wound JCAM37 movement, which captured the essence of mechanical precision, raw beauty and furious speed. Even considering Jacob & Co.'s penchant for producing ingenious movements, the JCAM37 movement is a watchmaking triumph.
Aside from the newly designed one-minute tourbillon carriage tilted at 30°, what really makes the movement groundbreaking is the automatic mechanism. The brand calls it "animation on demand," which encapsulates the unique features of the movement. By pushing the replica watches for sale's right crown, the motor encased in sapphire crystal is activated as the crankshaft turns and pistons pump up and down—just like the Bugatti Chiron's W16 engine. According to the brand, the crankshaft, made from a solid block of steel, is one of the smallest and most complex watch parts ever made. To enhance the visual impact, the pistons are mounted on the crankshaft at different angles. Also, a pair of turbochargers (reduced to four turbochargers in the actual Chiron engine) on one side of the engine block while the engine is running.
The movement alone contains 578 parts. It is suspended in four positions with the help of shock absorbers. There are two exhausts on either side of the engine block. Further evidence of its automotive pedigree can be found in the windows of the tourbillon, which is modeled after Bugatti's horseshoe grille.
Functionally, the left crown sets the time, the middle crown winds the movement and automatics (clockwise for the movement, counterclockwise for the engine animation), while pressing the right crown starts the on-demand animation.
